MORE ABOUT THE AUTHOR
My career has been helping young children overcome their learning difficulties. During this time I have had access to thousands of children's books. Many could touch your heart or brought feelings of joy, others captivated with their ideas and illustrations. Since my retirement from teaching, I finally have the time and resources to combine my experience and Fine Arts background to follow one of my lifelong dreams: Writing and illustrating a children's book of my own.
It took a while to come up with an idea that I thought would hold children's interest, but all I had to do was look around me. What was I passionate about? Of course, my love of children, but also my compassion and attachment to animals! At that time I had 5 dogs living in my home. Four of them were rescues that I brought home at different times and circumstances. I tried fostering, but quickly became too attached to give them up. I found their interactions as a pack, very interesting and telling!
Corky was the most colorful and had beautiful markings, so I chose to begin with him. "Corky Boy," has been well received by children of all ages, as well as adults, and I have been asked to do a series that showcases my other furry family members. This request came unprompted from 3rd grade students, after an author reading. Can you guess what I will be doing for the next few months?
Check out the rest of the pack in photos: Bacon, Houdini, Missy and Little Bit.
I sincerely hope you will get a chance to read "Corky Boy," and share it with others!
